Ayo app for iPhone and iPad

Ayo is traditionally a strategy game played on hand crafted game board by two people facing each other over two rows of six holes, popular in Nigeria and within West Africa; though a variation of the game also exists in other part of Africa. Each player places seeds in each of their six holes and takes turns in playing and the player that captures the most seeds in their home wins.

At Appfriqs, we have developed the game for mobile devices to make it more accessible not only to the youths of Africa but to lovers of the game worldwide. Whilst the game is traditionally played on a board, we have take great care to recreate the wood effect of the game and making it interactive and ensuring the game can still be played against a friend, with each player sitting on opposite sides of their mobile devices.

The Ayo mobile game has been developed with 3 levels of difficulty (easy, hard or expert) which has been based around the various rules of the game that abound. This ensures that players are able to progress from the easy game to test their mantle against the computer or friend at the expert level.


Appfriqs launches ‘Ayo’ for IOS devices; a strategy game usually played on hand crafted wooden game boards by two people is now available for download on mobile devices. The game can be played against the computer, through the 1 player mode; against the computer called “Oluayo”; which means “King of Ayo” or with a friend through the 2 player mode.

The game is fun and engaging with 3 levels of difficulty; and we have taken great care in recreating the wooded effect of the actual board game which gives players a realistic feel. The background music from an African dance troupe also attempts to recreate the African feel of the game
